Ángel de Castro, un hombre poderoso casado con Carolina, es infiel. Sus hijos son Alicia (con extraños padecimientos), Alma (enamorada de Raúl), Armando (el primogénito) y Andrés. Armando se enamora de Verónica, una ambiciosa cantante. Ángel, sin saber que es la pareja de su hijo, obliga a Verónica a ser su amante. El profesor Roberto Olmedo se enamora de Alicia e intenta ayudarla. La trama incluye personajes secundarios como Carlos Carvajal y el misterioso benefactor Silvio.
