Defenders of the Earth is an animated television series of the 1980s featuring three characters from comic strips distributed by King Features Syndicate - Flash Gordon, The Phantom, and Mandrake the Magician - battling the Flash Gordon villain Ming the Merciless in the year 2015. Supporting characters include their children Rick Gordon, Jedda Walker (daughter of The Phantom), Kshin (adopted son of Mandrake), Mandrake's assistant Lothar, and Lothar's son L.J. The show lasted for 62 episodes; there was also a short-lived comic book series published by Star Comics (an imprint of Marvel Comics).

Overview:	Im Mittelpunkt der Serie steht eine Gruppe berühmter Helden, bestehend aus Alex Raymonds Science-Fiction-Helden Flash Gordon und Lee Falks Comicfiguren Mandrake der Zauberer, Dschungeldheld Phantom und Lothar, Mandrakes Helfer und stärkster Mann der Welt. Gemeinsam kämpfen sie gegen den bösen Herrscher Ming, den klassischen Gegenspieler Flash Gordons, der im Jahr 2015 versucht die Erde zu erobern. Um die Zielgruppe der Kinder anzusprechen, wurden die Helden durch eine neue, jugendliche Helden-Generation ergänzt. Diese besteht aus Flashs Sohn Rick Gordon, Lothars Sohn Lothar Junior „L. J.“, der Tochter des Phantoms Jedda Walker und dem Waisenkind Kshin, um das sich Mandrake kümmert. Hinzu kam Kshins Alien-Haustier Zuffy der Zuffoide.
