Maestros del terror es uno de los mejores referentes televisivos del género fantástico. La serie presenta una estructura muy particular, puesto que cada capítulo tiene un hilo argumental propio, que nada tiene que ver con el anterior ni con el siguiente. La producción consta de trece capítulos. Esta nueva serie está creada por Mick Garris (Critters 2 y la nueva versión de El Resplandor), conocido por sus adaptaciones de las novelas de Stephen King. Cada capítulo está dirigido por un director y equipo diferentes, todos ellos expertos en el género de terror. El propio Garris dirige el capítulo titulado Chocolate. Además, en esta serie participan directores de la talla de Tobe Hooper (La matanza de Texas, Poltergeist), John Landis (Granujas a todo ritmo, Desmadre a la americana), o Joe Dante (Gremlins), Entre el reparto de cada uno de los capítulos, que serán como pequeñas historias de horror de una hora de duración, aparecen actores reconocidos como Robert Englund, que encarnó a Freddy Krueger en Pesadilla en Elm Street, así como Henry Thomas, quien dio vida a Elliot el mejor amigo de ET. El extraterrestre. Además de otros como Tea Gill (Queer as Folk), Jon Tenney (The Closer), Billy Drago (Cyborg), Norman Reedus (Blade II, Asesinato en 8mm.).
