Jenny McIntyre, fotografa in carriera di un magazine femminile di Los Angeles, "In Person", inizia a riflettere sul senso della vita quando alla sua migliore amica Vivy viene diagnosticato un tumore al cervello. Dopo la sconvolgente notizia, Jenny comincia a vedere tutto sotto una prospettiva diversa e la sua vita fino a quel momento le appare improvvisamente superficiale, compreso il matrimonio, che sta organizzando nei minimi dettagli, con il fidanzato perfetto Ian, uomo d'affari con più stile che sostanza.
