一流企業の人事部長としてリストラを担当する鬼塚（大杉漣）は、ある晩公園で段ボールに入った子猫を見つける。一度は無視して通り過ぎたものの、結局は子猫をこっそり自宅に連れ帰ってしまう。これまでの厳格な態度のせいで妻（原日出子）や娘（矢木初季）にそのことを言い出せない鬼塚は、会社が研修用に借りている施設の一室で子猫を飼い始める。
