Sindbad der Seefahrer kreuzte vor der schroffen Küste des Weihrauchlandes im Osten der arabischen Halbinsel. Nomaden zogen durch die Wüsten und Bergmassive des Hinterlandes. Diesen Zauber hat sich der Oman bis heute noch bewahrt. Die Film-Reise zeigt im Norden die Enklave Musandams bevor es entlang der Küste zur alten Hafenstadt Sohar und weiter in die Hauptstadt Muscat geht. Eintauchen in den Souk und die Gassen der Lebensmittelmärkte. Der Sultanspalast, Hotels mit traumhaften Stränden. Nach Nizwa, dem ehemaligen Zentrum führt der Weg hinein in die Wüste von Wahiba Sands mit ihrem funkelnden Sternenzelt. Traditionelle „Dhaus“ werden in Sur auf Kiel gelegt. Enge, grüne Wadis winden sich auf dem Weg nach Süden durch die Berge. Schatten spenden dann die Palmen der Stadt Salahah, mit ihrem orientalischem Gold- und Weihrauchsouk. Zum Abschluss die Spurensuche in der Rub Al-Khali nach dem Atlantis der Wüste – der versunkenen Stadt Ubar…
