The Fourth of July is brought about with gunshots in celebration of the Fourth of July; however, Richmond detectives the following morning now have a homicide on their hands. There are many pieces of evidence at the scene which may lead to a suspect. When a possible suspect is identified, they say they had nothing to do with it, even though the evidence may appear otherwise. As the investigation continues, the number of suspects increase, and Richmond homicide detectives have to sift through the evidence they have to get to the truth.
Es ist der Morgen nach den Feierlichkeiten zum Nationalfeiertag am 4. Juli. Eine Leiche wird auf einem verlassenen Grundstück in Richmond gefunden. In der vorangegangenen Nacht wurden zur Feier des Tages auch dort unzählige Freudenschüsse abgegeben. Detective Simms und sein Team sammeln am Tatort über 60 Patronenhülsen ein. Die tödlichen Schüsse wurden nicht gehört, weil sie im Lärm des Feuerwerks untergingen. Niemand hat etwas gesehen.
Erst ein Hinweis eines Anwohners führt Simms auf die Spur eines Verdächtigen, der im Lügendetektortest eine auffallend schlechte Figur macht. Doch er streitet die Tat vehement ab, und die Gerüchte werden immer lauter, dass ein stadtbekannter Dealer hinter der Tat steckt.
