Episode 10

Amateur bakers compete to win the Flour Power trophy. All over Scotland, workmates are baking up a storm creating cakes and makes for charity bake sales with the aim to make lots of money for good causes, and to compare their colleagues’ efforts to their own. So, over ten episodes we turn gentle ribbing and rivalry into full-scale workplace warfare. We visit ten very different workplaces to watch four colleagues compete against each other to be the company’s official baking champ. From distillers to vets, language schools to lawyers, not only are these amateur bakers determined to make amazing cakes and bakes, they really want to be able to brag to their workmates. We follow each competitor at home as they create their cakes, buns, bread or savoury pies and pasties. Then they will be revealed at a bake sale to the critical eye of their colleagues and, more importantly, to our judges. Each week our series judge, Nichola Reith, will be joined by a local judge to taste, debate, berate and celebrate each of our competitors’ efforts. At the end of the bake sale, we will reveal who the judges have declared the workplace winner and worthy of the Flour Power trophy. In this episode we’re in Glasgow at Live Language. With over 1,000 students attending its classes every year, it's one of Scotland’s busiest language schools. It’s a multilingual affair as Arabic teacher Ruba, Russian services administrator Tatiana, Lebanese café manager Nana, English teacher and Highlander Marcus battle it out for the Flour Power trophy. Perfectionist Nana decides to cook a traditional baklava, while Tatiana bakes a cake in honour of her grandmother. Ruba goes for a chocolate cake with some mouthwatering additions but Marcus goes one step further, creating a ‘monumental’ cake in tribute to one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. Let’s just say it’s ambitious! Judging alongside series stalwart Nichola Reith is local baker and café owner Calum Bryce.
