Maddie explores plants in the rainforest, big and small, and sees how the clever drip-tip leaves water the plants beneath them. We see how plants in hot, dry parts of world like the desert thrive in their own special ways, like the cactus plant that stores litres of water in its waxy leaves. And we learn how plants that grow close to home in the UK can grow in a colder and wetter climate.
Join Maddie to discover the plants that we use in our everyday lives and how we can help to look after them and our planet. We use plants like bamboo to build with, we make clothes from plants, and we even turn plants into useful materials like rubber for making wellington boots. And we use wood for musical instruments! Along the way, we discover how latex comes from inside a rubber tree, and Maddie goes high into the rainforest canopy to show us how tall a bamboo plant grows. She also makes a bowl from a banana leaf.
Join Maddie as she finds out how many plants give us food we can eat, such as fruit like strawberries, grapes and pineapples, and vegetables like potatoes and onions. Maddie finds out how we can help to look after them and our planet. We’ll learn about the different parts of a plant, how plants grow and how they can feed us. From the food we grow under the ground like carrots, parsnips and beetroot, to those that grow above the ground, like fruit on trees, from lemons, olives and apples to pears and even cocoa beans that make chocolate!

We discover how a tree’s leaves make energy using sunlight, so they can keep growing. We learn that a tree is alive - it drinks and breathes and grows just like we do! And we find out about deciduous trees that lose their leaves in winter and evergreens that keep their leaves all year round.
