When Janey is hesitant to leave home and pursue her dream of acting in Hollywood, Grandma convinces her to go by offering to come along for moral support. Once in their shoddy apartment in tinsel town, friction grows between the women but it’s not just roommate issues: Grandma scores a role in a commercial over Janey. Fortunately, Janey finds a silver lining when she meets the dreamy Oliver, a fellow Michigander and aspiring director. Her hopes are quickly dashed when an embarrassing accident on the set goes viral and Janey becomes the “Grandma, No!” girl.
Lorsque Janey hésite à partir et poursuivre son rêve de devenir actrice à Hollywood, sa grand-mère parvient à la convaincre en lui proposant de l'accompagner pour la soutenir moralement. Une fois installées dans leur appartement miteux d'Hollywood, des conflits, pas uniquement dus à la colocation, apparaissent entre les deux femmes : Grandma décroche un rôle dans une publicité et pas Janey. Heureusement, Janey y trouve un bon côté lorsqu'elle rencontre le beau Oliver, un compatriote du Michigan et réalisateur en herbe. Ses espoirs sont rapidement anéantis lorsqu'un incident embarrassant se produit sur le plateau et devient une vidéo virale. Janey est alors la fille associée à la phrase "Grandma, No!".
