Harvey Weskit borrows a cabin cruiser from a friend of his wealthy father-in-law, and invites the Peepers to join him and Marge on a cruise. Wes is self-appointed captain, but his piloting leaves something to be desired.
Mr. Peepers and Wes hear that Elaine Stritch is playing at a nearby theater, so they attend, hoping to convince her to appear at their parent-teachers meeting.
When a new ballet teacher is hired at Jefferson City Junior High School, all are shocked to learn that after school hours she dances at a roadside cabaret. Mr. Peepers goes to investigate

Mr. Peepers gives the official commencement speech at the junior high school graduation exercises. He also asks for a raise in salary, in view of the coming baby. When the Superintendent of schools refuses the raise, Mr. Peepers considers applying for employment at a nearby military academy.
Robinson finds a Mr. Monfrede in his classroom as the new science teacher when he returns from military duty. While Mrs. Gurney tries to recall something she's to tell Mr. Peepers, he says his goodbyes and prepares to leave the job he loves so much.
Mr. Peepers meets Nancy Remington's parents and manages to destroy a family possession.
Foolishly forgetting an obligation to do a speech for fire prevention at Remington's house, Peepers accept Weskit's invitation to play in the bowling league championship at the same hour. At Remington's, he has to sneak out to get to the game, but has trouble getting back in time.
Mr. Peepers is taking care of a nest of baby birds that are located in the school clock. It's scheduled for repairs and Peepers asks council president Mr. Loomis to delay them until the birds can fly away. He refuses so it's up to Peepers and best friend Weskit to save the day.
Playing the role of a good Samaritan, Mr. Peepers will find himself involved in remodeling a wedding dress.
Robinson Peepers misleads Nancy into thinking he has a date so she goes to the drive-in with Freddie. Robbie decides to go also and parks next to them. An evening of misadventures follows including people repeatedly entering the wrong car.
Mr. Peepers is troubled when his student Helen Fernley develops a crush on him. He gets advice from both Weskit and Mrs. Gyrney leading him to visit the Fernley parents. Mr. Fernley though only wants to talk sofas.
Robinson is excited that his sister Agnes Peepers is visiting but after introducing her around men are intimated by her superior intellect. Robbie tries to help out Sis but she hits it off with TV repairman Howard by being herself.
Weskit proudly shows Peepers his new, as yet unfurnished apartment where the newlyweds will live. He figures out where everything will go, down to the pictures on the walls. At the same time, Marge's friends throw her a bridal shower, with all giving her the same thing.
Mr. Peepers is so intent on winning a bean guessing contest at the local eatery that he is unaware a movie crew has taken over his classroom. He exacts a pleasant revenge after being treated rudely by the director.
It's Nancy's birthday and Robinson has a little surprise party planned than everyone gets snowed in at school. Also Mr. Mumsey can't fix the broken furnace but Robbie perseveres to make Nancy's day special.
Edward Barnes, a successful businessman, wants to earn a high school diploma but needs to pass a test. When Ed fails, Mr. Peepers makes a special effort to help him achieve his goal on his next attempt.

School Superintendent Bascomb comes to inspect the students' newspaper publishing operation, run by a "crusading editorial staff."
A very nervous Wes takes the train to Chicago to meet Marge for the wedding, accompanied by Peepers, Nancy, and Mrs. Gurney.

Misunderstanding an overheard conversation between Mr. Bascomb and Mr. Peepers, Mrs. Gurney feels unwanted and decides to retire.
An old buddy of Mr. Peepers brings his precocious young Chinese son to be enrolled in Mr. Peepers' class.
Marge and Wes are about to come home from their Sun Valley honeymoon, and their apartment proves to be in less-than-perfect shape as Mr. Peepers and Nancy prepare it for the Weskits' return.
Despite Marge's inexperience in cooking, she and Wes invite Mr. Peepers and Nancy over for dinner. After dinner, Wes and Marge fight, and at midnight, Wes appears at Mr. Peepers' apartment to spend the night.

Mister Peepers borrows Mister Remington's car to take Nancy on their last date before he leaves Jefferson City for ten weeks. They get lost and end up at Mister Remington's lodge hall, where Nancy dances with everyone but Mister Peepers.
Mr. Weskit takes a bus trip to visit Mom and Sis Peepers.
Show-off Cousin Luther and other relatives come to visit Ma and Sis Peepers, where Mr. Peepers is staying.
Wes, Marge, Nancy, and Mrs. Gurney meet Mr. Peepers at his mother's house in order to give him a ride to the college, where he is to take a refresher course for secondary science teachers. They plan to arrive in the evening and drive through the night, but Mom Peepers is concerned that they all get a good night's sleep first. Finally, it is agreed that they will spend the night at Mom's house, but they wind up talking all night and get no sleep at all.
At Upstate Teachers' College for a summer refresher course, Mr. Peepers visits his former professor, Dr. Ludvig Hoffman. He winds up rooming with a young drum-playing football player who flunked out the previous year, and who calls the slightly older Mister Peepers "Pop." Finally, the lonely Mr. Peepers meets up with some old friends, and they get together for a reunion drink.
Nancy and Mr. Peepers miss each other during the long summer break. They both seek to welcome each other back after the vacation.
Wes and Marge simultaneously make plans to have a larger, more comfortable home built, each without telling the other.
Wes is anxious to show his friends the motion picture film he and Marge shot on their vacation.
Wes pressures Mr. Peepers into getting his recalcitrant locker repaired.
Mr. Peepers gets cornered by Mrs. Gurney's niece, a very intellectual and aggressive type, at a party.

Mr. Peepers' nature study group takes a field trip to the country, but loses track of one little boy who is fascinated with a litter of puppies at the farm.
Robinson and Marge cook up a little romance between Mrs. Gurney and lonely, grumpy principal, Mr. Bascomb, at the annual box lunch social.
Looking for lamp parts in Mrs. Murchison's basement, Mr. Peepers discovers a comfortable old leather chair.
Jefferson Jr. High gets a new gym teacher.
The newlyweds pause briefly at Robinson's home overnight on their way to up-State Teachers College. Aunt Lil provides advice, and Robinson's getting used to calling Nancy's folks Mother and Dad.
