    Robinson finds a Mr. Monfrede in his classroom as the new science teacher when he returns from military duty. While Mrs. Gurney tries to recall something she's to tell Mr. Peepers, he says his goodbyes and prepares to leave the job he loves so much.

    Foolishly forgetting an obligation to do a speech for fire prevention at Remington's house, Peepers accept Weskit's invitation to play in the bowling league championship at the same hour. At Remington's, he has to sneak out to get to the game, but has trouble getting back in time.

    Mr. Peepers is taking care of a nest of baby birds that are located in the school clock. It's scheduled for repairs and Peepers asks council president Mr. Loomis to delay them until the birds can fly away. He refuses so it's up to Peepers and best friend Weskit to save the day.

    Weskit proudly shows Peepers his new, as yet unfurnished apartment where the newlyweds will live. He figures out where everything will go, down to the pictures on the walls. At the same time, Marge's friends throw her a bridal shower, with all giving her the same thing.

    A touring company of Romeo and Juliet comes to Jefferson City, hiring both Nancy and Mrs. Gurney to fill out the cast. Mr. Peepers is afraid to appear in tights but the play's theme brings out Robinson's feelings for Nancy.

    Mr. Peepers captures a rare butterfly and notifies the scientific organization concerning such matters. The society sends a man to investigate who then offers Robinson $200 but only if it's killed and mounted. Peepers faces a dilemma.

    Wes, Marge, Nancy, and Mrs. Gurney meet Mr. Peepers at his mother's house in order to give him a ride to the college, where he is to take a refresher course for secondary science teachers. They plan to arrive in the evening and drive through the night, but Mom Peepers is concerned that they all get a good night's sleep first. Finally, it is agreed that they will spend the night at Mom's house, but they wind up talking all night and get no sleep at all.

He winds up rooming with a young drum-playing football player who flunked out the previous year, and who calls the slightly older Mister Peepers "Pop." Finally, the lonely Mr. Peepers meets up with some old friends, and they get together for a reunion drink.
