    Eva Gabor reports a theft to Hildy, and gives her a rhyming note, signed ""The Butterfly,"" which communicates a threat to rob the Gabor family's ruby that is on exhibit at the International Jewelry Show. Hildy recognizes the suspect as the man who eluded her husband, the former Sheriff, five years earlier. Although she foils the theft and ""evens the score"" the thief cleverly escapes. Hildy plans to net The Butterfly, a notorious jewel thief who steals a priceless ruby owned by Eva Gabor (HERSELF).

One is a lonely number as only Hildy doubts a woman, supposedly down on her luck, who is collecting donations from everyone with her sob story.

    Hildy attempts to fight her strong physical attraction to a handsome body builder who is less than brilliant, while her deputies bet on whether or not she will ask him out.

    Romantic jealousy reigns as Jonathan Gagen fabricates an interest in Hildy's attractive new intern in order to prove to Hildy that she too is the victim of jealousy. At the same time, Putnam, who finds the young lady irresistible, plots the conquest of her heart.
