Ben and Mary have been a devoted couple since their college years in the 1960s. They shock their friends and teenaged daughters when they send out invitations for their wedding--everyone had assumed they had been married for years. Their wedding brought old friends back to town, like Barbara, who doesn't want anyone to know that her rich husband is divorcing her. She and old friend Peter, who doesn't seem to be going anywhere, begin an affair. And single dad Joey and old friend Jane draw closer.
