Au début des années 2020, Fayçal Ziraoui, un jeune polytechnicien, découvre par hasard l'affaire du Zodiac. A la fin des années 1960, ce tueur en série, qui n'a jamais été identifié, a semé la terreur en Californie. Il mettait ses meurtres en scène et envoyait des lettres énigmatiques contenant des cryptogrammes à la presse et à la police. Cinq décennies plus tard, Fayçal relève le défi de déchiffrer les deux derniers codes envoyés par le tueur, ce qui lui permet d'identifier un suspect.
