Il Casanova di Federico Fellini

Nell'Italia del XVIII secolo, Giacomo Casanova è un avventuriero modestamente ricco che conduce un'esistenza futile; i suoi unici punti di forza risiedono nella seduzione e nelle prestazioni sessuali.

A modern filmművészeti irányzat emblematikus rendezőjének számító Fellini később az ún. posztmodernhez csatlakozott. Ennek az áramlatnak lett jelentős műve a Casanova. Ezt a sokszor és sokféle értelmezésben feldolgozott témát Fellini a hetvenes évekre utalóan főleg egy aspektusára élezte ki: Casanova, aki kora művelt, önálló szellemiségű alakja volt, éppen ebben a minőségében nem kellett senkinek. Szexuális látványosságként, erotikus gerjesztőként kezelték, hiába próbált újra meg újra teljes emberként érvényesülni, ez még a szerelmében sem sikerült. Emlékirataiban, nemhiába tekint vissza keserűen erre a sajátosan romlott egyéneket igénylő, bomlott világra, ahol még egy gép is szeretetreméltóbb az embereknél.

Au XVIIIème siècle, à Venise. Les rues, pontons et canaux sont animés par le traditionnel carnaval qui déploie les pompes d’une grande fête païenne. Giacomo Casanova, habillé en Pierrot, se rend à l’invitation que lui a fait parvenir une coquette et coquine religieuse. Leurs ébats érotiques sont observés par l’ambassadeur de France, De Bernis, amant de la nonne et voyeur complaisant. C’est le point de départ d’une série d’aventures galantes et sinistres racontées sans vergogne par le célèbre séducteur.

The film opens with a carnival in Venice as a prelude to a series of erotic encounters that follow Giacomo Casanova through the cities of 18th-century Europe. The organizers of the festival attempt to raise a gigantic bust (sculpture) from the water; this fails, which is taken as a bad omen. Casanova is then introduced, as he visits one of Venice's islands to copulate with a fake nun for the pleasure of a rich voyeur; Casanova succeeds in entertaining him, but is frustrated that the man finds no interest in his research into alchemy and his further scheming. As he rows back to the mainland, Casanova is arrested, judged and imprisoned by the High Court over his famed debauchery.
