松本清張の同名小説を、米倉涼子主演でドラマ化。有能な弁護士でありながら、ブラック企業を弁護して勝訴する機会が多いため“最低の弁護士”とやゆされる卓子（米倉）は、入院することになった原山（津川雅彦）からある依頼を受ける。それは、保険金目的で夫の福太郎（中村梅雀）を殺害した疑いのある球磨子（黒木華）の弁護だった。世間では“希代の悪女”のように扱われていながら無実を主張する球磨子は、傷害罪で別件逮捕されることに。そんな中、検事正の秀子（余貴美子）は球磨子を有罪にすべく画策を行う。
