New York parapsychologist Philip Devlin loses his wife in a tragic auto accident, and he himself suffers from severe memory loss. One of the few people he can still remember from his past is a Berlin physician, Dr. Wiemer. Philip and a German colleague, Dr. Horst Glockner, who is researching into parapsychological phenomena at the university, decide to go and visit Wiemer. At his home, however, a horrible surprise is in store for them: they find Dr. Wiemer lying on the floor, dead, and at his side a mentally deranged French woman, Jeanne, who seems to have murdered him. Jeanne tells them an incredible story: she says that Wiemer stole her baby, and that its father had been an extraterrestrial. Devlin persuades Dr. Glockner's team of researchers to investigate this case -- not least of all because he hopes to find some clue to his own past and to the weird visions that have been plaguing him for some time now.
