In Denmark in 1848, Christian Kruse, a horn player, lived with his father, a boatman, and with his sister Marie, who was in love with Orla, a valiant officer in the Danish army. When the war breaks out, all leave for the front to fight against the Germans. Marie also leaves, who wants to make her contribution as a nurse. In war, during a dangerous mission, Christian discovers that Frants, Orla's brother, is a spy. Lured into a trap by the traitor, the young man is wounded. To ask for help, he blows his horn.
