Der Kriegsheimkehrer Dr. Stefan Heim verliebt sich in die Hotelbesitzerin Christa von Söldern. Gemeinsam bauen sie sich eine Zukunft auf: Stefan eröffnet seine eigene Praxis, die beiden gründen eine Familie, und ihr Glück scheint vollkommen. Doch schon bald ziehen dunkle Wolken auf - unerwartete Probleme stellen ihr Leben auf eine harte Probe und bringen ihre heile Welt ins Wanken.
