Wolfgang Welsch ist 1964 gerade 20 Jahre alt, als er die Flucht aus der DDR versucht. Er wird festgenommen und ins Stasi-Gefängnis nach Schwerin gebracht, von dort aus nach Berlin-Pankow. Vier Monate später wird er zu zwei Jahren Haft verurteilt und ins Gefängnis Rummelsburg überstellt. Ein weiterer Prozess folgt, der Vorwurf lautet "Spionage für den CIA".
