Éclair, a priestess from the Fire Village, flees from an invading army with one of her village's two mystical Phoenix Stone halves before passing out. In Magnolia, Fairy Tail wizard Lucy Heartfilia spots Éclair and her birdlike companion Momon lying unconscious on the city streets while returning from a mission. After bringing the two to her guildhall to recover, Lucy introduces them to her friends Natsu Dragneel, Happy (manga character), List of Fairy Tail characters#Gray Fullbuster, List of Fairy Tail characters#Erza Scarlet, List of Fairy Tail characters#Wendy Marvell, and List of Fairy Tail characters#Carla. Hearing a premonition from Carla, Éclair travels to the monster-filled Boundary Forest. Although Éclair is disenchanted with magic, she reluctantly accepts Lucy and her friends' offer to accompany her.
