북한 평양에서 태어나 살고 있는 한 소녀의 성장을 그린다. 양 감독은 70년대 초반 아버지(양의 남동생)가 일본에서 북한으로 이주한 조카 소나의 이야기를 들려준다. 양은 일본에서 북한 학교에서 교육을 받은 소나를 응시한다.
