Jacques Tati débute dans le music-hall dans les années 1930. Il bricole ensuite un premier long métrage, Jour de fête. En 1953, il réalise son deuxième long métrage, Les vacances de monsieur Hulot, première apparition du personnage lunaire. Mon oncle, son troisième film, remporte un Prix spécial du Jury à Cannes et un Oscar à Hollywood. Puis, arrive un projet monstre, Playtime, qui va engendrer un naufrage financier.
