Adaptação da série exibida em 1988. O humilde lavrador Zé do Burro faz promessa a Santa Bárbara para salvar da morte seu burro Nicolau. O pagamento é carregar uma pesada cruz do interior baiano até uma igreja de Salvador. Ao chegar às escadarias da igreja, com os ombros feridos, precisa lidar com a incompreensão de um padre conservador.
