漫画の神様・手塚治虫。その創作の原点は戦火の中にあった。１９７０年代、漫画家としてどん底にあった手塚治虫は、自身の戦争体験をもとに『紙の砦』を描き始める。連載打ち切り、会社倒産、すべてを失いかけた時、なぜ戦争を描いたのか。執筆に挑む手塚治虫（高良健吾）と、戦時下を生きる分身・大寒鉄郎（原田琥之佑）。漫画を描くことだけを支えに生きた二人の物語が、時代を越えて交錯する。
