这是一部基于犹太人自传体小说和摄影选而改编成的电影，讲述了一个有才华的音乐家竭力远离尘世，努力实现其梦想、迈入音乐殿堂的故事。出演本片的有普拉斯-米歇尔----一位国际唱片音乐家（前Fugees小组成员之一），维迪-柯蒂斯-霍尔和贾-鲁尔等著名的打击乐音乐家。普拉斯在片中饰演戴蒙德，一个很有天份胸怀大志、年轻有为的音乐家。但是，需要他面对的事一个接一个：他的母亲去世了，他热爱音乐的父亲（维迪-柯蒂斯-霍尔饰）又回到了他的生活中；而此时，他的女朋友（塔马拉-琼斯饰）又发现怀孕了；他儿时最要好的朋友（贾-鲁尔饰）仍深陷在这个充满暴力和毒品的世界中，真是应接不暇。但普拉斯集中精力，专攻炽爱的音乐，最终获得了成功，也为自己赢得了声誉。
