Frederick Charles Jones began his acting career with guest roles in series such as Z Cars, Our Man at St. Marks, and The Liars. His role as Cucurucu in Marat/Sade (1967) brought him critical acclaim. Two years later, Jones made his mark playing Claudius in the six-part television miniseries, The Caesars (1968). He achieved international recognition after appearing in such films as Firefox (1982), The Elephant Man (1980), Dune (1984) and Wild at Heart (1990). In television he was best known for playing Sandy Thomas in Emmerdale from 2005 to 2018
