French actor, cabaret singer and entertainer, Maurice Auguste Chevalier made several short films in France, in WWI was captured and placed in a POW camp by the Germans and learned English from fellow prisoners. When 'talkies' came into existence he traveled to the US and was paired with opera singer/actress Jeanette MacDonald to make The Love Parade (1929), together, they made three more films with the most successful being Love Me Tonight (1932). Returning to Europe in the late 1930's he made several more films before WWII interrupted his career. He returned to Hollywood in the 1950's to perform in Gigi (1958) followed by a few more films and in 1970 he sang the title song for Walt Disney's The Aristocats (1970), his last contribution to the film industry.
