Der kleine Tomas "Pipo" Pipko aus Bratislava nimmt einen Irish Setter in Pflege, den er Silvo tauft. Er fährt mit ihm auf dem Fahrrad zu Onkel Sirak aufs Land. Dort trifft er Marian Djurina, genannt Maros, und Katka aus dem Kinderheim. Nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten werden Pipo und Maros beste Freunde. Als die Adoptiveltern mit Maros nicht zurechtkommen, nimmt Pipos Familie ihn bei sich auf.
