新唐历贞观年间，据传能预言天下大势的《推背图》残页重现人间，天下谣言沸腾，称前朝女帝萧后即将转世并再度篡位，数起诡异凶残的杀人案接连发生，而一切怀疑都指向深受当朝天子宠爱的玉贵妃。人心惶惶之际，名满天下的风流才子李墨白一心为民入宫求官，借为贵妃作诗之机，受命调查悬案真凶，立誓“作诗三百，破三百案”。李墨白与东南、念奴、元丹丘一行四人，在守护天下百姓平安、一路解疑断案的过程中，也被卷入一场巨大的阴谋。
