Pendant ce temps, Daniel découvre que Gustave est livré à lui-même et fait du marché noir, tandis que Lucienne, seule avec sa fille et son père, est de retour à l’école après un an d'absence.
At the station, Jean, the militiamen and their families wait for the train which is to take them away from Villeneuve. Meanwhile, Daniel discovers that Gustave is on his own and doing the black market, while Lucienne, alone with her daughter and her father, is back at school after a year of absence.
