Kelly gets cold feet as she and Chuck were about to reveal to Gracie that Chuck is her real father. She decides that they need to resolve a few issues first and suggests they visit a therapist, which only complicates matters more when it's discovered that they both are holding back pent-up frustrations. Meanwhile, Gary is upset when he fails to receive the hug and words of encouragement which the security guard hands out daily.
Gary è contrariato dal fatto che la guardia di sicurezza Gerald dispensa abbracci a tutti i dipendenti della stazione televisiva, mentre con lui ha sempre evitato qualsiasi contatto fisico. Dopo aver ricevuto una serie di consigli da parte di Marsh e Ryan, il giornalista si reca dall'uomo per aver una spiegazione. Scopre così che si tratta di un suo ex-compagno di scuola al quale, a suo tempo, stroncò un'interpretazione teatrale. Kelly e Chuck attraversano un momento difficile. I due si rivolgono ad una terapista prima di rivelare la verità a Gracie. Kelly manipola il collega e riesce a convincerlo a rimandare il momento fatidico. Ma quando Chuck realizza di essere stato ingannato si presenta a casa di Kelly, deciso a compiere il grande passo. La rivelazione provoca uno svenimento ad entrambi i genitori.
