When all of Gotham's animals start getting agitated at the same time, Terry and Bruce Wayne figure out that sound frequencies beyond human hearing are to blame. That points to one man: Shriek. The animals prove to be the tip of the iceberg when people suddenly lose the ability to understand each other's speech. Shriek eventually turns off the interference, but makes a demand of Commissioner Gordon: the city's safety for Batman's life.

Cuando todos los animales de Gotham comienzan a agitarse al mismo tiempo, Terry y Bruce Wayne se dan cuenta de que las frecuencias de sonido más allá del oído humano tienen la culpa. Eso apunta a un hombre: Shriek. Los animales resultan ser la punta del iceberg cuando las personas pierden repentinamente la capacidad de comprender el habla de los demás.
Shriek retorna e exige a vida de Batman como resgate por Gotham.
Lo que empieza como una locura temporal de los animales termina siendo un plan de venganza de Shriek (Walter Shreeve), que con un dispositivo es capaz de interferir en el habla en todo Gotham, causando un gran caos.
