Here is Bernard Manning at his very best. Recorded at his own club, the Embassy in Manchester, and the Circus Tavern in London, it contains the kind of adult material you didn't hear from him on TV. Bernard certainly divided opinion. Liked and disliked in equal measure, he was seen on television in the early days with shows such as The Comedians and The Wheel Tappers and Shunters Social Club, but was banished from the screen in later years. He always contended that he was not any of the things people accused him of. Born of Russian, Jewish and Irish descent, he served in WW2 and at one stage just after the war even guarded Rudolph Hess at Spandau Prison! After that he thought humour was probably one of the more important things in life.
