Candy trifft während eines Kontrollritts den angeblichen Mörder und Deserteur Sergeant Bellis. Bellis beteuert seine Unschuld. Deshalb beschließt der Vormann der Ponderosa, ihm zu helfen. Unterdessen hat eine Einheit der Armee auf dem Besitz der Cartwrights Quartier bezogen.
An Indian-hating officer, Colonel Edward J. Dunwoody, comes to the Ponderosa looking for army deserter Bill Winters, who is a good friend of the Cartwrights. Bill happens to be his son and is married to an Indian. It seemed Bill deserted when he was ordered to massacre the Shoshone, by poisoning their food and water, genocide. The Shoshone find out and abduct Bill's father.
Un oficial que odia a los indios, el coronel Edward J. Dunwoody, llega a Ponderosa en busca de Bill Winters, un desertor del ejército y buen amigo de los Cartwright. Resulta que Bill es su hijo y está casado con una india. Al parecer, Bill desertó cuando se le ordenó masacrar a los shoshones envenenando su comida y su agua, lo que constituyó un genocidio.
