  • S01E01 The Clan, Part 1

    We meet all the members of the Carson family. Godfrey reluctantly allows Jennifer to join Carson and Carson as a Solicitor. To the consternation of the family, Godfrey announces his engagement to Felicity Bryce, the widowed daughter of the influential Sir Humphrey Moore.

    Jennifer becomes involved in a notorious child murder case. She pursuades Bill to undertake the defence of the accused, George Royston. There is an angry confrontation between Bill and Godfrey, when Godfrey hears this news.

  • S01E03 The Witness

    Godfrey tries to manipulate Bill out of the Roystron trial - without success. Amy goes out with a young philanderer, Alan Manning, and discovers that Tommy is drinking heavily. The Royston trial begins and Arthur finds a witness in Ballarat who can supply an alibi for Royston. Bill flies to Ballarat to bring the witness back to Melbourne. On the way home the aeroplane crashes and the witness and Bill are killed.

    Jennifer, shattered, tries to hold the family together. Godfrey takes over the funeral and thankfully passes the Royston defence back to the Crown Solicitor's office. Robert discovers that a large sum of money in Bill's safekeeping has vanished. After the funeral, Jennifer approaches Godfrey about the Royston defence. Angry at her interference, he tells her that Bill has apparently embezzled a large sum of money from a client. Furthermore, other sums have mysteriously disappeared without explanation from Bill's accounts. Jennifer's financial position is precarious.

    Immediately after Bill's funeral, Jennifer, despite Godfrey's objections, decides to continue with the Royston case alone, gaining the support of Arthur. Tommy's political career starts to move and Gerard reports to Godfrey with more news about the missing money.

    Jennifer, despite the continued objections of the Carson family, continues to fight but ultimately loses the Royston case. However, Arthur joins her business on a permanent basis and together they get their first client - Mrs Emily Talbot.

    While she and Arthur continue to gather evidence for Mrs Talbot's case of fraud against Adrian Lonsdale, Jennifer cuts herself off from the Carson family by accepting Vic's proposal to move to his house. Amy continues her rather rocky relationship with Alan Manning, a friend of Tommy's. Robert, in an ill-timed move, tells Billy of his father's supposed guilt where the missing money is concerned.

    Jennifer wins the Talbot case and after some family upset and Eileen's departure, begins to move to Vic's house. Gerard reports to Godfrey on the Alan Manning - Amy relationship and on Robert's gaffe to Billy. Amy is furious and Robert is berated by Godfrey. Taking advantage of Jennifer's departure, Margery successfully pushes for the purchase of Bill's house for Robert and herself.

    Jennifer and her children move into Vic's house and Sarah discovers some of her friends are snobs. Jennifer becomes involved with a man who claims to be a homeopathic doctor and reveals him to be a charlatan. Godfrey goes to the races and arranges for Tommy to meet with Edgar Swann M.P.

    Sarah's friend Louise Cartwright becomes seriously ill and a proper doctor is called. Cartwright decides to sue "the quack" and asks Jennifer to prosecute. Amy's affair with Alan reaches a desultory dead end.

    Gerard discovers that Edgar Swann is going to have a minor operation. He propagates the rumour that Edgar's health is failing badly. Eileen returns to Vic's and Sarah finds it difficult to accept the cramped conditions in Collingwood.

    The ramifications of Edgar's rumoured 'illness' are canvassed publicly and Edgar is put to the test at a dinner at Godfrey's in the presence of Sir Humphrey Moore. In effect he is forced to resign - leaving the way clear for Tommy to stand at the election. Sarah goes to stay at Godfrey's for a weekend and announces her intention to stay permanently.

    A new client comes to Jennifer with a case involving child custody and wife-beating. Arthur copes with his father's displeasure when he learns Arthur has resigned from Carson and Carson and is working for Jennifer. Meanwhile Godfrey tries to get Arthur to rejoin the firm. Sarah decides she'd like to move in to the Godfrey Carson house on a permanent basis and Jennifer agrees to let her stay with her grandfather until the accommodation problems at Vic's have been resolved.

  • S01E14 To the Future

    Arthur conducts Mrs Ward's custody case and wins a resounding victory when he breaks down the husband's evidence and proves him to be a violent drunkard. As a result of Arthur's involvement with the Ward case, he decides to stand up to his father and stay with Jennifer. Much to Arthur's surprise his father applauds the decision and says he will lend Jennifer and Arthur the money to set up properly in an office. Tommy's political career takes a step in the right direction when Tommy convinces Edgar Swann that he's the right man to take over Swann's parliamentary seat, and in a meeting at the local committee rooms, Tommy shows up well against his chief opponent in the pre-selection stakes. Sarah, while enjoying the luxury life at Godfreys, begins to miss the warm family atmosphere of life with Jennifer.

  • S01E15 Lost soul

    Madeline, an old school friend of Amy's, comes to the Carson house for a holiday, and Amy is faced with a dilemma - will she help Madeline obtain an illegal abortion? Jennifer becomes involved in trying to counsel the girl, and Amy meets an idealistic young doctor who helps save Madeline's life after she has obtained the services of a 'backyard' abortionist. At a speaking engagement, Tommy meets Mrs Amelia Redman, with whom an instant attraction develops. Jennifer and Arthur set up their new office, and all seems set fair for the new firm of Carson and Simpson.

  • S01E16 Pre-Selection

    Madeline returns home after convalescing at the Carson house. Amy discovers that she prefers the hardworking, idealistic Dr. Conway over the young man-about-town Alan Manning. Felicity brings Sarah to visit Jennifer at her new office, and tells Jennifer she believes Sarah's on the point of deciding to return home. Thanks to Mrs Redman, Tommy is able to steal a march over his political rival, Major Dolman, and wins pre-selection for Edgar Swann's former seat. Robert and Margery reveal what seem like irreconcilable differences. Robert leaves home and checks into a private hotel.

  • S01E17 On the Fence

    Jennifer finds herself acting as an intermediary between Robert and Margery as well as between two parties involved in a fencing dispute. Margery comes to Robert's hotel and finds him with another woman.

  • S01E18 A Family Concern

    Although nothing has been resolved in their domestic difficulties, Godfrey expects Robert and Margery to entertain an influential client in their house. Sarah becomes aware of just how hard her mother is working and finally decides to come home, but not before causing conflict for Amy in her relationship with Doctor Conway.

  • S01E19 Mistress

    • Network 10

    Robert realises that Margery is making herself physically ill with worry and returns to look after her. Meanwhile Felicity begins to doubt Godfrey's motives for postponing their wedding date and she has difficulty accepting that a man should be free to keep a mistress.

  • S01E20 Reputations

    Robert finally stands up to Godfrey and announces that he's taking Margery away for a short holiday. Jennifer defends a criminal who accuses her father's old police friend of assault. Tommy begins his campaign and once more relies on Gerard to smooth troubled waters.

  • S01E21 The Cause

    Through her friendship with Dr Michael Conway, Amy becomes involved with the movement urging birth control. She, and an ex-nurse, Cecily Johnson, are arrested on a charge of distributing obscene literature. Gerard reveals to Godfrey that Ruth is seeing another, much younger man. It transpires that the gentleman is her son.

  • S01E22 Trial and Error

    Jennifer successfully defends Amy on the charge of distributing obscene literature. Tommy's political career is unaffected by the case and Amy reaches a new understanding with Godfrey.

  • S01E23 Dead Men's Tales

    • Network 10

    Jennifer meets Charlie Miller who says he has information which will clear her dead husband's name. In exchange for this information, Miller wants 250 pounds, which Jennifer borrows from Robert. Her investigations connect Miller with an illegal gambling operation run by Donnegan, a known gangster. Godfrey instructs Gerard to find out what he can about the story. He goes to Donnegan's club, but is unable to track down Miller. With the 250 pounds in hand, Jennifer goes to the agreed rendezvous to meet Miller, but finds Miller's murdered body.

  • S01E24 Dead End

    • Network 10

    The police make enquiries of Jennifer and Arthur regarding Miller's murder. They also speak to Gerard. As Godfrey well knows and fears, the police have good reason to suspect Gerard but Gerard seems to be in the clear. Amy finds out that her father has instructed Gerard to keep Dr. Conway at bay. Jennifer becomes aware that the roof of Robert and Margery's marriage problems lies in their childishness. She suggests that Dr Conway may be able to help. Tommy meets up with an old associate. His name in Donnegan.

  • S01E25 The Candidate

    As Tommy's election campaign enters the final phase, Jay Donnegan tries to blackmail Tommy into promising future support for illegal business deals. When this threatens to become public knowledge, Tommy's confidence falters. He gets drunk and talks of pulling out of the campaign. Jennifer presses Donnegan for the information which she believes is going to clear Bill's name. She also meets James Dolman, one of Tommy's competitors, and is impressed by his honesty and policies.

  • S01E26 Strange Bedfellows

    Jennifer continues to press Donnegan for the information regarding Bill and questions Tommy about his association with Donnegan. Realising the threat to Tommy's election prospects, Gerard schemes to undermine Donnegan's power over Tommy. He wins the confidence of another gangland boss and arranges to have Donnegan's gang wiped out. Jennifer befriends Major James Dolman, Tommy's rival for the seat of Cameron and despite Godfrey's bitter objections, the two become close friends.

  • S01E27 Donnegan's Wake

    Gerard's plan to play Donnegan against a rival gang leads to a gangland shoot out. Though he escapes with his life, Donnegan's power is effectively destroyed. Despite Godfrey's disapproval, Amy and Doctor Conway continue to meet. Jennifer reluctantly decides to discontinue her friendship with Major Dolman until after the election.

  • S01E28 The Confession

    On Donnegan's suggestion, Jennifer confronts Tommy about the missing 3000 pounds. After admitting that he stole the money to settle his gambling debts, Tommy withdraws from the election. Bill's name is cleared at last.

  • S01E29 Aftermath

    • Network 10

    Godfrey, making his peace with Jennifer, offers her a job and her old house back. She refuses both. Dolman wins the election and Tommy remains missing.

  • S01E30 Waywards from the Bush

    • Network 10

    Arthur, defending young aboriginal Johnny Bill on a charge of possessing and consuming liquor, now finds his client on a murder charge. Tommy meets a prostitute named Jessica. Godfrey re-states his love for Felicity.

  • S01E31 All God's Children

    • Network 10

    Jennifer becomes involved in the murder trial of Johnny Bell. Robert and Margery's relationship blossoms after advice from Conway. Tommy and Jessica find they are becoming more involved.

  • S01E32 Blessed are They

    • Network 10

    Jennifer wins an acquittal for Johnny Bell. Tommy is left alone once again as Jessica's Pimp takes her away.

  • S01E33 A Useful Life

    • Network 10

    Michael Conway takes the directorship of the Western Benevolent Hospital and attempts to finish his relationship with Amy. She, in an effort to be near him, takes a cleaning job at the hospital and later discovers a desperately ill Tommy about to receive treatment. Working on Billy through his cricketing interests, Godfrey successfully offers his grandson employment at Carson and Carson.

  • S01E34 The Greater Good

    Billy starts work at Carson and Carson. Jennifer's relationship with James Dolman ends as he accepts an overseas posting and resigns from Parliament. Amy arranges for Conway to treat Tommy. Godfrey finds out and Tommy is forced to run again.

  • S01E35 Chopsticks

    • Network 10

    Sarah, Arthur and Billy go to a garden party. Godfrey hires a new and efficient solicitor to help in the office - John Kendall. Tommy, now in the country, meets Percy Cheong and his daughter Wei-Ching.

  • S01E36 In a Market Garden

    • Network 10

    Tommy, with Jennifer's help, settles a land dispute in favour of Percy Cheong. John Kendall entrenches himself in Godfrey's favour at Carson and Carson.

  • S01E37 The Prodigal

    • Network 10

    Tommy reluctantly returns home to face Godfrey and the family. Felicity continues with the wedding arrangements.

  • S01E38 The Razorman

    • Network 10

    Vic arrests a man who has gone berserk. The man swears vengeance. Vic's life is in jeopardy but an act of bravery on Tommy's part saves Vic from a perilous situation. In this way, Tommy feels that he has appeased his guilt about his mistreatment of Jennifer and her family.

  • S01E39 Christmas Cheer

    • Network 10

    With Christmas approaching, Jennifer and her family become involved in trying to help an impoverished family whose breadwinner has been laid off for the Christmas shutdown. A word from Godfrey in the right place eventually ensures that justice is done. Amy becomes intrigued by Felicity's bohemian Aunt Harriet and she is invited to join into her circle of theatricals. Christmas day luncheon brings the whole family, including Vic and Eileen, together at Godfrey's house.

  • S01E40 The Wedding

    Once the question of a marriage settlement has been resolved and Godfrey has made a new will, his wedding to Felicity goes ahead as planned. New arrangements for the domestic staff point to problems which threaten to disrupt the smooth running of the household at its core.

  • S01E41 The Honeymoon

    In Godfrey's absence, Amy and Tommy give a New Year's Eve party where John Kendall runs into a friend he would rather forget. On Godfrey and Felicity's honeymoon, Gerard comes to blows with Felicity's maid Delia and succeeds in having her dismissed.

  • S01E42 A Private Life

    Through Amy's association with Aunt Harriet's theatre group, it is revealed that John Kendall is a homosexual. He hands his resignation to Tommy and decides to go interstate. Tommy persuades Kendall to stay on with the firm despite Tommy's own personal repulsion and the dangers that Kendall's sexual preferences pose for the future of Carson and Carson. At first Jennifer and her family have difficulty settling down to their holiday at the seaside. Bill's absence at this time is a sad reality to face up to but they begin to enjoy themselves in the way that they had during previous vacations.

  • S01E43 Birthright

    Margery's parents come to stay. During their visit it is revealed that she once had a brother who died of haemophilia. Mrs Brookes matchmaking efforts go unrewarded as she arranges a tea party for John Kendall.

  • S01E44 Heritage

    • Network 10

    To allay Margery's fears that her unborn child might be a haemophiliac, her parents are forced to admit that she was an adopted child. Sarah enjoys her first and very brief romance with a local lad she meets at the seaside.

  • S01E45 Policeman's Lot

    • Network 10

    A client of Arthur's passes away and Jennifer is on her way to the reading of the will, when her Gladstone bag, containing all copies of the will, is stolen. Jennifer is in a dilemma. When the will is finally recovered, the situation is resolved - but in the meantime, Jennifer has learnt that both major beneficiaries, the deceased's son and mistress, are simply selfish, greedy ingrates. Jennifer comes up trumps in the end. Vic feels that he is being pushed into retirement by a new, over zealous inspector - a representative of the "new" police force, to which Vic no longer feels he belongs. Furthermore, his tried and true relationship with Ma Bonner, proprietor of the local pub, is broken down through a misunderstanding.

  • S01E46 True Colours

    Ma Bonner, proprietor of Vic's local pub, is arrested on a charge of keeping an S.P. book. The charge is dismissed in court but the case proves to Vic that he still has a useful role in the police force. He decides against retiring. Pressure from Felicity forces Godfrey to admit that Gerard is his first wife's bastard son. The conflict between Felicity and Gerard escalates until Felicity once more, confronts Godfrey, only to be deflected again.

  • S01E47 The Pound of Flesh

    Gerard tries, unsuccessfully, to blackmail Godfrey with his knowledge of Carson manoeuvrings. Any throws her first bohemian party.

  • S01E48 In Service

    • Network 10

    Amy goes away for the weekend with the Bohemian crowd. She is very much out of her depth, especially when the famous artist, Bartholomew, propositions her. However, when she publicly puts him in his place, she finds that the others are beginning to accept her as an individual with a point of view. Arthur develops a crush on a young barmaid in Ma's pub. But he soon learns that she has a problem - she is bringing up an illegitimate child of her own, and the child's father refuses financial support. Through various means, some devious, Arthur satisfactorily resolves the situation.

  • S01E49 The Soiree

    Jennifer and Sarah have a clash of wills over Sarah's wanting to leave school. This reaches an uneasy resolution when Sarah announces her desire to be a concert pianist.

  • S01E50 Best Laid Plans

    • Network 10

    Sarah is put to a test where her true musical talents are examined. John Kendall is about to be asked to become a partner of Carson and Carson when he is arrested.

  • S01E51 The Sins of the Sons

    • Network 10

    John Kendall is dismissed from Carson and Carson by Godfrey after it is revealed that he is to be charged with committing acts of gross indecency. After much discussion and heart-searching, Jennifer agrees to take the case. Mrs Brookes is dismissed by Godfrey after she refuses to expel Kendall from her house, but is reinstated when it's realised that the firm can't manage without her.

  • S01E52 The Perfect Gentleman

    Jennifer unsuccessfully defends John Kendall in his homosexuality trial, and emerges with a new understanding of Kendall and those like him.

  • S01E53 Future Horizons

    • Network 10

    Mrs Brookes finally accepts John Kendall's jail sentence of three years' hard labour, makes her peace with Godfrey and stays at Carson and Carson. Sarah decides she will sit for the Victorian Junior Scholarship at the Conservatorium. Felicity announces to Godfrey that she is expecting their baby.

  • S01E54 Happy Events

    Margery reacts badly to the news that Felicity is expecting, but Felicity eventually brings her around. Sarah wins the Conservatorium scholarship but then fears that Godfrey Carson may have influenced the examiner's decision.

  • S01E55 Scent of Battle

    Godfrey successfully defends Sir Humphrey's godson against a murder charge in his first criminal case for many years. Sarah and Louise realise that by encouraging a relationship between their parents, they will still see a lot of each other after Sarah leave Ormiston.

  • S01E56 The Fortune Teller

    • Network 10

    Felicity and Margery become involved with Jack Moffat, a charlatan astrologer and fortune teller. A worried Godfrey sends Gerard to fetch them, and on the way home there is a car accident. Sarah plots to match-make Jennifer and David Cartwright.

  • S01E57 Fortunes Child

    • Network 10

    In the aftermath of the car accident, Felicity recovers while Margery slowly comes to terms with the loss of her child. Gerard almost loses his nerve to drive. Vic, Billy and Arthur solve the problem of Mrs Brooke's prowler. Sarah starts at the Conservatorium.

  • S01E58 Fire and Misfire

    Vic clashes with the local Catholic Father over an old football argument. Jennifer and David Cartwright reach a new understanding in their relationship, after Godfrey has tried to put an end to it. Robert and Tommy force their father to let them take on Court work in the firm.

  • S01E59 St. Patricks Day

    • Network 10

    The conflict between Vic and Father Sands escalates and Eileen is forced to move out of the house. Robert and Tommy work together on a case which may take them to Court. However, if they lose, the punishment from Godfrey will be severe and Robert has doubts about his brother's ability.

  • S01E60 The Masquerade

    Robert and Tommy's legal case is finalised and Tommy takes all the credit - undeserved. Jennifer discovers pangs of jealousy in her relationship with David Cartwright. Any has her twenty-first birthday. Although it is a happy occasion for all, she uses it in a spiteful manner towards her father.

  • S01E61 All that Glitters

    Sir Humphrey meets an actress, Dorothy Nesbitt, and becomes romantically inclined towards her. But she is only using him. Amy'd driving lessons nearly bring her to grief.

  • S01E62 Laugh Clown Laugh

    Felicity makes her peace with her father. Billy becomes upset over his mother's relationship with Cartwright. Sir Humphrey discovers that Dorothy Nesbitt has been deceiving him.

  • S01E63 Guardian Angels

    • Network 10

    Godfrey and Sir Humphrey meet Ben Gibson and conclude their deal on Gibson's moving picture. They discover the chaos involved in movie making. Jennifer becomes involved with a client who subsequently proves to be a vexatious litigant.

  • S01E64 Lost Opportunities

    Despite concern from Jennifer's family, it seems that marriage to Mr Cartwright is possible. Godfrey and Sir Humphrey's motion picture becomes a co-production with an American Company. This necessitates the sacking of the picture's director.

  • S01E65 A Country Dance

    • Network 10

    A weekend spent with David Cartwright and his family causes Jennifer to have doubts about their relationship. Louise Cartwright becomes dangerously ill when she and Sarah have a private party. The situation is saved by Billy.

  • S01E66 Faith Hope and Fencing Wire

    David Cartwright finally faces the truth about the family mill - that his mother can no longer cope. But it is too late to save his relationship with Jennifer. Her disillusionment with him is too great for her to seriously consider marrying him. They agree to part. Louise Cartwright develops a crush on Billy.

  • S01E67 A Matter of Confidence

    Mrs Brookes' friendship with Archie grows, but his true motivation is revealed. Billy comes to an understanding with Louise Cartwright.

  • S01E68 The Tender Trap

    • Network 10

    Mrs Brookes turns to Gerard for help over Archie Douglas' threatened blackmail. Godfrey and Margery prevail on Robert to stand for the City Council.

  • S01E69 A Case for Compassion

    • Network 10

    After Archie Douglas' failed suicide attempt, Jennifer successfully argues his cause with the arresting officer, Constable Eddie Flynn, to have the charges dropped. Mrs Brookes overcomes her hurt at Archie's duplicity and saves his marriage.

  • S01E70 From Small Acorns

    • Network 10

    When Robert and Margery come under scrutiny from the City Council, the inspection becomes a little too personal and conflict arises. After making life unbearable in the Carson household, Amy is given the money to go to Sydney, but realises this is not what she wanted at all.

  • S01E71 Street Games, Night Moves

    Vic begins to fear that Jennifer is forgetting her roots in the Collingwood district. Robert receives further encouragement to join the City Council. Laszlo Novak, the American film director, arrives and makes quite an impression on the Carson's. Jennifer is confronted by a memory from her past in the form of a childhood girlfriend.

  • S01E72 Deceptions

    Jennifer is deceived by an old close friend. Estelle Davies, the leading lady in Godfrey's and Sir Humphrey's motion picture venture, arrives. She causes a major disturbance.

  • S01E73 Orphans of the Storm

    Robert and Margery become involved in the affairs of the Burnley Foster Home, and take Rose Gunn home for a weekend visit. Their house guest proves to be neither as grateful nor as malleable as they had expected. Estelle begins to make her present felt in the Carson household, and Tommy becomes jealous of her friendly treatment of Gerard. Godfrey and Sir Humphrey meanwhile find themselves involved in increasing expense as the production of "A Woman in Exile" moves closer to principal photography.

  • S01E74 Falling Star

    Margery and Robert return Rose to the orphanage and she runs away. After finding her in Collingwood Jennifer suggests a job for Rose and she agrees to the idea. Godfrey is informed of Estelle Davies' cocaine indulgence. Under increasing stress, Estelle attempts to take her own life.

  • S01E75 Means to an End

    Because of Estelle Davies' attempted suicide, Sir Humphrey and Godfrey lose potential investors for the film. After gaining financial support for the Burnley Foster Home, Robert decides against standing for Council.

  • S01E76 Teapots and Tears

    • Network 10

    Estelle regains her confidence as an actress after her suicide attempt but at Felicity's expense. After devoting herself to Estelle's recovery, Felicity is rejected as an interfering busy-body. Athur defends a woman for theft and comes to the conclusion that she may be suffering from kleptomania.

    Arthur, Billy and their girlfriends go to watch a dancing exhibition. Russell's flat is bombed as a result of his investigations into police corruption so he decides to lay low until things quieten down. Tommy brings an old flame to dinner using her to goad Godfrey. When his intentions towards Felicity are misunderstood, Tommy runs afoul of the protective Gerard.

    Godfrey doubts Felicity's innocence in respect of Tommy's advances. Amy returns home from her wedding to discover that her father's own marriage is in turmoil. Margery tries to tell Amy about the facts of life. Arthur and Mrs Brookes become involved with the Salvation Army, in the form of Major Miriam Thomas and Algernon 'Slammer' McQuade.

    Amy and Garrick are married. Godfrey suggests to Felicity that they need time alone to talk through their problems. The poor box is stolen from the Salvation Army, and Slammer decides to fight an illegal boxing match to make up the money. He is found to have killed his opponent.

    Slammer is charged with manslaughter. Arthur defends him undertaking his first Supreme Court case. Jennifer acts as his Instructing Solicitor. Amy and Garrick depart on a motoring honeymoon. Their car breaks down and they find unexpected delight in a country hotel. Godfrey and Felicity go to Daylesford to try to save their marriage.

  • S02E34 A Devil's Work

    Robert takes on a rather suspect but extremely attractive client, despite his better judgement. Gerard investigates and discovers that she is in fact the villain in the piece. Amy and Garrick enjoy honeymoon bliss until a boating accident with tragic results.

    After Phillip's death, Amy disappears. The family fears she may be planning to take some rash action. Jennifer and Russell find Amy and take her home. Russell Burns returns to Melbourne to find there's to be a public inquiry into police corruption. He is outrage, however, with its limited terms of reference.

  • S02E36 A Fond Contempt

    As the Board of Inquiry into police corruption begins, Russell finds himself facing a charge of contempt for refusing to reveal his sources. Felicity's relationship with Godfrey hasn't really improved after all. Margery decides that her marriage needs the benefit of some 'modern' ideas. Russell withdraws from the inquiry when a threat is made to Jennifer's life.

  • S02E37 Luck of the Draw

    Jennifer suspects she has misjudged Russell. Felicity tries to attract Godfrey's attention by buying extravagant outfits. Eileen discovers the mother of one of Sam's playmates is a prostitute. Russell wins the rundown nightspot "Lucky's" in a poker game, only to discover its debts far exceed its market value.

  • S02E38 A Lucky Investment

    Russell finds there is no way out of ownership of Lucky's. Against Godfrey's wishes, Felicity invests in Lucky's and becomes an equal partner in the venture with Russell and Tommy. Jennifer's relationship with Russell deepens, and Arthur is not at all impressed. Eileen helps Maureen after she is attacked by her pimp.

  • S02E39 Strike Me Lucky

    Russell and Tommy enlist the help of their friends to prepare Lucky's in time for its grand reopening. Tommy decides to engage Roy Rene (Mo) to help launch Lucky's, but neglects to confirm the booking. Robert is given the task of defending Dr. James West - accused of murdering his wife.

  • S02E40 The Performance

    Despite his late arrival at Lucky's, Mo gives a great performance and the evening is a great success. Robert is riddled by self doubt on the first day of Dr. West's trial. Eventually he trusts his own instincts. Robert is alarmed when he finds Godfrey confused and unable to stand.

  • S02E41 A Hold on Life

    The Carson household has been shaken by Godfrey's poor state of health. Jennifer is forced to acknowledge to Arthur that the office is on a decline. Gerard visits Ruth and explains that Godfrey has fallen ill. Godfrey collapses during his Christmas speech. To the family's dismay Dr. Webster announces that Godfrey has contracted pneumonia.

  • S02E42 The Old People's Friend

    The Carson family try to come to grips with their fear that Godfrey may be dying. Convinced that he may not live, Godfrey tries to tie up loose ends. He asks Robert to take over the firm and asks Gerard to fetch Ruth for a clandestine meeting. Felicity becomes suspicious.

    Godfrey seems to be dying and Felicity is forced to use everything in her power to give him the will to live. Ruth Lyons visits Godfrey's bedside with Felicity's blessing. Robert and Tommy ask Jennifer to rejoin Carson and Carson. Jennifer's worsening business situation forces her to fire Arthur.

  • S02E44 A Small Favour

    Jennifer returns to Carson and Carson. Arthur accepts a position in Manchester with his father's mills. Sarah is heartbroken. Russell and Tommy are victims of protection racket tactics by Hammer Wallace's thugs. A New Year's Eve party is crashed by Hammer Wallace who brings along the infamous Squizzy Taylor. Tommy is smitten by Squizzy's girlfriend Eva.

    Tommy eventually finds Eva on Squizzy's yacht working as a croupier. Arthur realises that he can't leave for England without Sarah and he proposes. Mr. Simpson and Jennifer at first oppose the marriage, then give their consent. Eva and Tommy have a secret affair. Inevitably Squizzy finds out and discovers them together.

  • S02E46 Throw a Seven (2)

    Squizzy's plan to frame Tommy backfires. Arthur and Sarah's wedding arrangements are rushed through. They marry in church and the reception is held at the Carson mansion. There is a shooting at the warehouse and Neil is seriously injured. Gerard is arrested and charged. To protect Godfrey from learning about Tommy's involvement, Gerard pleads guilty.

  • S02E47 The Comeback

    Eighteen months after Amy's death, Gerard is released from prison. Having lost contact with Eva, Tommy is being groomed for marriage to the respectable Caroline Beaumont. Godfrey blames Gerard for Amy's death and wants nothing to do with him. Tommy's engagement party is interrupted by the sudden arrival of his ex-mistress Eva.

  • S02E48 Wild Oats

    Godfrey intervenes, forcing Tommy to renounce Eva and return to the engagement party. Eva moves into Lucky's back room. When she discovers Gerard going through her things, a vengeful Tommy arranges to have Gerard beaten up. Tommy's fiancée Caroline discovers him in bed with Eva. Cam Neil seems to be improving and is about to talk.

  • S02E49 Misalliance

    Gerard continues in his attempts to establish his innocence and restore Godfrey's trust in him. Kate becomes part of the Carson household. Eva further establishes her dominance over Tommy. A beautiful and vulnerable society woman, Fiona Hastings, comes to Robert for help in obtaining a divorce.

    Fiona Hastings is reluctant to allow Jennifer to cross examine her lover Dr. Morris. Felicity clandestinely visits Tommy offering her support. At Lucky's, Wallace and Eva set up a blackmail sting on a visiting politician. Godfrey demands that Felicity relinquish her partnership in Lucky's. Fiona's trial looks unpromising when Dr. Morris suggests her mental instability.

  • S02E54 Malpractice

    Eva thwarts Felicity's attempts to dissolve her share in Lucky's. Tommy agrees to go along with the blackmail of Jackson, an old friend of the Carson's. Godfrey is forced to trade favours with Hammer Wallace. Margery has the vaguest of suspicions concerning Julia and Robert. Jennifer's formidable courtroom skills finally break Dr. Morris.

  • S02E55 Fear is the Key

    Jennifer is unwittingly involved in an industrial dispute at an ice plant and is arrested. Determined to have Eva destroyed, Godfrey instructs Gerard to do whatever is necessary. Julia introduces Robert to a self help guru named Lee James. A sense of unrest enfolds the Carson household staff.

    The Union dispute at the Ice Plant leads to major conflict between Jennifer and Godfrey. When the workers revolt, Jennifer is injured in an explosion. Margery finds the "new" Robert hard to take and blames the hapless Julia. Felicity is forced to deal with a house-hold work-to-rule campaign led by Eileen.

  • S02E57 Fallen Into Darkness

    Having lost her eyesight, Jennifer is admitted to hospital for observation and eventually surgery. As antagonisms reach a crescendo, Margery forces Robert to make a choice between herself and Julia.     Jennifer is installed in the Carson mansion. Despite Godfrey's best intentions, she becomes a virtual prisoner and she decides to flee. However, Julia halts any possibility in that direction.

  • S02E60 To the Future

    Jennifer returns to her flat. Determined not to become an invalid, Jennifer astounds Godfrey by turning up for work. Robert and Margery's estrangement is reconciled. Tommy blames his father when he is unable to find a position in a law firm. Eva convinces Tommy to effect a reconciliation with Godfrey so they can destroy him.

    Jennifer and Dalton investigate Hammer Wallace's involvement in the Bishop case. Jocelyn Woods, a woman from lan Kerr’s past, re-appears asking for money. lan is forced to pull a double-cross on Tommy during a horse race. Dalton presses Jennifer to decide if she will marry him.

    Jennifer takes on a child custody case for an old acquaintance, Ann Preston. She is surprised to f‌ind Chris Dalton will be representing the husband, David Preston. Godfrey tells Ian and Robert that they must settle their differences. lan becomes suspicious of Felicity’s involvement in the custody case. He bluffs her into revealing her previous affair with David Preston.

    Jennifer and Dalton oppose each other in a custody battle. Though Jennifer wins the case, the issues raised force Dalton to realise that he and Jennifer have no future together. A woman deliberately shoots a prominent K.C. in the Supreme Court. Jennifer decides to represent her - much to the whole legal fraternity’s displeasure.

    In defence of Elizabeth Howard, Jennifer decides the only hope is to plead temporary insanity. She f‌ights for her client’s life to the last minute. Tommy meanwhile savours the pleasure of having unmasked lan’s false identity.

    Tommy is unwittingly embroiled in Hammer Wallace’s prison break-out, which ends in a violent shoot-out. Tommy informs Ian he plans to bring Carson and Carson to its knees. Carlos helps Kate with a friend facing eviction. Julia resigns from Carson and Carson leaving the f‌irm in the lurch, and Margery in charge of the switchboard.

  • S02E80 End of the Road

    Carlos becomes emotionally involved when he attempts to help Ellen Stokes re-establish her tenancy. Tommy receives a proposition from Kelly, Hammer Wallace’s right hand man. Godfrey confronts Tommy about his gangland aspirations. Felicity receives bad news about her father’s health. Carlos misses saying goodbye to Ellen - and blames Kate for their departure.

    In order to get extra money, Carlos becomes involved in teaching dancing lessons. He f‌inds they’re not all that they seem. Godfrey is appointed to head a Royal Commission into crime. Felicity seeks Jennifer’s help to discover the truth about her father's past. The secrets unearthed are shocking for both of them.

    Kate helps Carlos rid himself of the stigma of the bogus dance studio. Sir Humphrey's will states that his fortune is to be divided equally between his children. Felicity f‌inally shows Godfrey the letters revealing Gerard to be her half brother. Godfrey withholds this information from Gerard but when lan Kerr uncovers the truth, he and Tommy decide this is just the ammunition they need.

  • S02E83 Blood on the Straw

    Kelly assaults Felicity to send a warning to Godfrey to back out of the Royal Commission. Tommy loses conf‌idence in Kelly and decides to dispose of him. Godfrey gives Tommy a f‌inal chance to run, rather than face the Commission. In the park with Carlos, young Edward and Kate are abducted by Tommy’s henchmen.

  • S02E84 Buying Time

    Edward and Kate are being held in a disused brothel. Godfrey enlists Gerard and Carlos’ help to f‌ind them. Godfrey is forced to soft-peddle interrogations relating to Tommy in the Royal Commission because Edward’s life is in jeopardy. To Godfrey's relief, Gerard and Carlos f‌ind and free Edward and Kate. The Royal Commission has not quite f‌inished with Tommy Carson.

  • S02E85 A Question of Liberty

    Thanks to Gerard’s evidence, Tommy now faces a murder conviction. Undeterred, Tommy assures his father that it’s not over yet. With lan Kerr’s help, Tommy manages to escape from his cell. Once again, Godfrey and his family are under threat. Julia receives a surprise visit from her mother - Isabelle. Julia senses a trap when her mother reveals she has brought an eligible young bachelor.

  • S02E86 The Scapegoat

    Ian and Tommy conspire to incriminate Harry Armstrong, a small time thief, for the killing of a policeman during Tommy's escape. With Tommy at large, Godfrey insists that Felicity and Edward take refuge in the country. Jennifer is convinced that Harry Armstrong is not guilty of murder and defends him in court - opposite Godfrey acting for the Crown in prosecution.

  • S02E87 Hide and Seek

    In the defence of Harry Armstrong, Jennifer is able to use the testimony of the driver involved in Tommy’s break-out to have Armstrong acquitted. With Ian’s assistance, Tommy f‌inds Felicity and Edward’s country refuge. Tommy forces Felicity to ring Godfrey and urge him to join them as soon as possible.

  • S02E88 My Father My Son

    At the country refuge, Gerard is shot during an attempt to help Felicity and Edward escape. Godfrey arrives to confront Tommy but is stopped when the police arrive. Ian realises that Jennifer and Robert intend to investigate him and he takes steps to outwit them. Finally, Godfrey gives himself up to his son.The outcome of their reunion is death.

  • S02E89 Requiescat

    After Tommy's funeral, a benumbed Godfrey is left to put his life back together. Carlos is banished to Robert and Margery’s for a short stay. Meanwhile Kate is contacted by Peter Mason, an old school friend, looking to rekindle a romance. Julia becomes suspicious of Ian’s manipulation of the f‌irm’s trust funds. He is forced to abduct her in order to buy time for his escape.

  • S02E90 The Heir Apparent

    Robert starts to check on Ian's movements. Gerard returns to report - the Ballarat Construction Company doesn't exist. Robert and Gerard eventually f‌ind Julia and free her, then go after Ian. At a deserted country airf‌ield, despite Gerard’s frantic efforts to stop his biplane taking off, Ian escapes with all their money. Robert has the unenviable task of breaking the news to Godfrey.

  • S02E91 The Dark Tunnel

    After the Ian Kerr debacle, Godfrey is shattered - there is no f‌ight left in him. Kate goes after Carlos to reveal her true feelings for him. Gerard goes through the motions of establishing himself away from the Carson household, but it’s not what he really wants. Dalton proposes to Jennifer but she feels betrayed when she learns of his involved in the takeover of Carson and Carson.

  • S02E92 Daylight

    The Carson mansion is put up for sale and the f‌irm is about to merge with Abercrombie and Gray. The Stock Market crashes - leaving Gerard penniless. Jennifer shows Godfrey real scenes of the Depression and pleads a case for a new Carson and Carson, one that will help the people. Life will go on, with its problems and hardships, but there is hope for them all.

  • S02E99 The Old People's Friend

    The Carson family try to come to grips with the fact that Godfrey may be dying. Convinced that he may not live, Godfrey tries to tie up loose ends. He asks Robert to take over the firm and asks Gerard to fetch Ruth for a clandestine meeting. Felicity becomes suspicious.
