Blake Shelton -- the singer, songwriter and, most recently, one of the stars of reality music TV series "The Voice" -- came away the big winner in the 46th Country Music Assn. Awards ceremony Thursday in Nashville, winning entertainer, male vocalist and song of the year honors, the latter shared with his wife, Miranda Lambert. "When I moved to Nashville in 1994, I had two goals: one day to have a gold record, and one day to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry," the 36-year-old Oklahoma native told the crowd looking on in the country music capital's Bridgestone Arena. "Entertainer of the year -- what is this? ... I don't know how this happened, but I freaking love it."
The 47th annual CMA Awards aired live Nov. 6 from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on ABC. Known as country music's biggest night, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood served as hosts of the star-studded event for the sixth consecutive year. Nominees and winners of the CMA Awards were determined by their peers -- more than 7,100 industry professional members of the Country Music Association. The eligibility period for the event ran from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013.
With Brad Paisley and a pregnant Carrie Underwood set to host for the seventh straight year, and all the usual suspects set to perform, you’d think business would run as normal. But you’re wrong. Not only will this mark the first CMA telecast without Taylor Swift in nine years, pop starlet Ariana Grande is set to perform with Little Big Town while Meghan Trainor will sing her hit “All About That Bass” with Miranda Lambert. Few other surprises have been announced, but God only knows why Trisha Yearwood has been regulated to a presenter’s slot and not given prime exposure to sing “PrizeFighter” with Kelly Clarkson.
The 49th Annual CMA Awards will take place Wednesday, November 4, live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. The show will be broadcast live on the ABC Television Network from 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. ET. Returning as co-hosts for the eighth year in a row are country superstars Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. (The latter ranked #13 on Forbes’ 2015 Country Cash Kings list; Underwood, who took several months off this year to be with her 8-month-old son, finished just below the list’s cutoff.) The hosts have garnered rave reviews from critics and fans alike in past years with their memorable monologues and original songs.

The ceremony recognizes some of the best country music released during the eligibility period. Carrie Underwood hosted the event with special guest hosts Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, celebrating legendary women in country music.
