Maria é uma mulher portuguesa que emigra para Vestmannaeyjar, uma pequena e remota ilha na Islândia, em busca de uma vida melhor para si e para a sua filha adolescente, Bela. Longe de um passado marcado pela violência doméstica e por segredos profundos, Maria procura liberdade e um lugar onde possa ser ela própria. Seis meses após a sua chegada, Maria é encontrada sem vida. A sua morte violenta choca a comunidade isolada e expõe os segredos que todos guardam. A investigação fica a cargo de Soffía, uma detetive islandesa que, ao mergulhar no caso, enfrenta o seu próprio ponto de viragem, o que a leva a tentar equilibrar o dever profissional com os fantasmas do passado.
Follows the story of Soffia, an Icelandic detective who is trying to solve a murder within the Portuguese community in the Vestmanna Islands, Iceland. The victim, Maria, is a young Portuguese woman who arrived on the island to work in the cod fishing industry.
