Maisie the bird is tired of sitting on her egg day after day waiting for it to hatch. She would rather be off playing so she looks for a replacement. She sees Horton the elephant walking by and talks him into taking her spot. Maisie goes off to Palm Beach and has such a good time she decides not to go back. Horton sits through the winter on the egg waiting for Maisie to return.
