Gary rettet die schwangere Frau von Detective Armstrong vor dem Ertrinken. Erica lässt sich nur widerwillig überreden, an einem gemeinsamen Abendessen teilzunehmen und trennt sich anschließend von Gary. Sie will mit Henry in ihre Heimatstadt Galina zurückkehren. Am nächsten Morgen rettet Gary mit Armstrongs Hilfe einen TV-Moderator vor einem Bombenanschlag: Eine paramilitärische Organisation wollte sich dafür rächen, dass der Sender ihr politisches Manifest nicht verbreiten wollte.
Am Tag darauf will Gary Erica bitten, bei ihm zu bleiben. Aber an diesem Tag kommt die Zeitung nicht. Gary befürchtet, dass nun das Verlagsgebäude der Chicago Sun-Times Ziel eines Anschlags werden könnte. Er versucht, die Reporterin Molly Green zu überzeugen, das gesamte Gebäude räumen zu lassen.
Gary saves a woman from drowning in a pool at a women-only gym, who turns out to be Detective Armstrong's wife. The Armstrongs invite Gary and Erica to dinner at their house; Det. Armstrong is suspicious about Gary saving his wife, and accuses him of trying to kill her. Erica decides to end her relationship with Gary, and leave Chicago. Meanwhile, Gary has to prevent two places from blowing up after a manifesto is sent to the Sun Times and the TV station, both of which refuse to read or publish it, and then are targeted by the people who wrote it.

Con l'aiuto del "giornale del giorno dopo", Gary riesce a salvare un conduttore tv e a impedire un attentato ai danni dell'edificio in cui ha sede la redazione del Sun Times. Intanto Erica decide di lasciarlo.
