Die Naturfilmer von BBC haben sich mit neuster Technologie an eines der grossen Geheimnisse der Natur herangewagt. Über vier Jahre haben sie verschiedene Vögel in allen Kontinenten von ihrer Geburt an aufgezogen, eine enge Beziehung zu ihnen aufgebaut und sie so zu Hauptprotagonisten ihrer neuen Naturserie „Die Erde aus der Luft“ gemacht. Auf ihre Zieheltern konzentriert fliegen Kraniche, Störche, Aras, Kondore und Wellensittiche den Biologen durch die ganze Welt hinterher und ermöglichen so einen phantastischen Einblick in ihre Sicht auf die Erde. To fly like a bird, Earthflight not only captured remarkable images of wild flocks but also relied on some extraordinary relationships between people and birds. Filmed over four years, in six continents and more than 40 countries, the Earthflight team used many extraordinary techniques.
For some of the unique flying shots, members of the team became part of the flock. The birds followed wherever they went – even in a microlight over Edinburgh and London.
In Africa, paragliders floated alongside wild vultures, while a model vulture carried a camera inside the flock. In South America, wild-living macaws, that were rescued as babies, still come back to visit their ‘foster mother’ as he travels along a jungle river. In Africa, a radio-controlled ‘drone’ silently infiltrates masses of pink flamingos without disturbing a feather, and microlights and helicopters capture the dramatic moment white storks arrive over Istanbul.
A tame vulture carried a camera across the African bush and recreated the behaviour of his wild relatives. Similarly, in the USA, a flock of hand-reared snow geese followed the migration route of wild flocks and took in the sights and sounds of New York – managing to get lost in Brooklyn.

Amíg a stáb az emlékezetes snitteket csinálta, különleges kapcsolat alakult ki az emberek és a madarak között. A több mint négy évig tartó filmezés alatt a csapat 6 kontinenst és 40 országot járt be. Végig különleges technikákat alkalmaztak: Afrikában siklóernyővel követték a keselyűket és modell-keselyű vitte a kamerát a rajban, de ugyanitt rádión irányított, pilóta nélküli repülőgép, azaz drón vegyült el a flamingók közé.

Tot 100 vogelsoorten wereldwijd, velen in de vlucht, vanuit hun eigen, luchtige, perspectief te filmen, werd veel gevraagd van de apparatuur die wordt gebruikt, met inbegrip van lichte vliegtuigen en miniatuur camera's, zelfs levensechte vogel dummies. De belangrijkste factor zijn de vogels die werden gevangen, uitgebroed en getraind met eindeloos geduld. Maar zelfs dan, bewees het filmen een zenuwslopend en soms levensgevaarlijke aangelegenheid te zijn.
