The Road to Supremacy

Around the same time that Harunobu and Kansuke defeat the Ogasawara clan, Kagetora Nagao becomes the head of the Nagao family, succeeding his elder brother. Things finally calm down in Shinano. Kansuke goes on a trip to obtain guns, foreseeing that the new weapon is the key for future victories. Coming back to Kai, Kansuke tells Harunobu about his grand plan of seizing control of Echigo, Suruga, and then the whole country. Kansuke asks Harunobu to let him infiltrate Echigo to spy on their potential enemy.

　塩尻峠の戦いで晴信（市川亀治郎）、勘助（内野聖陽）が信濃守護・小笠原勢を打ち破ったと同じ頃、越後に新たな動きが起きていた。長尾家の家督争いが決着し、弟の景虎（Ｇａｃｋｔ）が兄・晴景から当主の座を譲り受けたのである。ただ、越後はいまだ群雄割拠が続き景虎は国内の統一を果たせないでいた。統一の鍵を握っていたのが宇佐美定満（緒形拳）だった。宇佐美は景虎が真に国主に相応しい男か見極めんと模様眺めを続けていた。信濃情勢が落ち着きを見せる中、勘助は旅に出た。新兵器・鉄砲こそが将来の合戦を左右すると見抜いた勘助は、その産地である根来寺に出向き百挺もの買付けに成功した。運搬には舟と港が必要とあって、駿河に立ち寄った勘助は港の借用を今川義元（谷原章介）に願い出る。その席で、北条氏康（松井誠）に追い詰められた関東管領・上杉憲政（市川左團次）に景虎が損得抜きで援軍を送ったと聞き、勘助は景虎に興味を抱く…。
