Drama following four women related to soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Tasha's world comes crashing down when her husband is killed in action, while his mum Paula is desperate for someone to blame. Officer's wife-to-be Claire sets a date for her wedding before fiance Pete returns to duty, and Louise receives an anonymous picture message from Camp Bastion suggesting husband Joe has been unfaithful.
When medic Joe returns home, he has some explaining to do - but can he convince Louise that theirs is a marriage worth fighting for? Tasha welcomes her own mother with open arms.
Claire is enjoying her month’s trial at work. Tasha has returned to work but after client Julie mentions her husband Tasha runs out. Cheryl encourages Tasha to think about setting up her own business with Matt’s insurance payout. Claire, Louise, Tasha and Cheryl swap stories during a girls’ night out. Claire is proud of her new job, but still has to tell Pete about it. Cheryl let’s news about Tasha’s pregnancy slip and Louise gushes about Joe’s turnaround and the promise of an army free life in future. Julie ends up telling her the truth about what is going on and Louise doesn’t want to believe her. Louise later questions Joe about the affair after he calls her ans she decises to end their marriage. Tasha receives a letter confirming the inquest date.
Tom Raveley flies back from Afghanistan to give evidence at his brother’s inquest. On Tom’s instruction, Howard says to Paula that they should get away for the day rather than listen to a Coroner list of the unpleasant details of Matt’s death. Paula refuses though and believes that questions will be answered and they’ll finally get closure. Claire thinks that this is not going to be an ordinary inquest and offers to take the day off and support Pete. Tom is unable to deny at the inquest that Matt was homesick and thought his wife might be playing away causing Tasha to storm out. The Coroner gives a verdict of Unlawful Killing and Pete is visibly relieved. A naive Millie believes that she and Rob can pick up where they left off, but he ignores her calls and treats her like a stranger aftern he visits the Cookhouse with his friends. Julie takes Louise for a night on the town where she flirts with Carl and decides it’s time to start living again. Tasha goes to see Howard with a birthday gift from Alfie and a scan picture.
The flags are out in force as the troops are back in town. Pete leads his men home and Claire could not feel prouder. It’s a bittersweet day for the Raveley’s though as only one of their two sons has survived the tour. Joe has no no welcoming party and he returns home alone only to find that Louise has changed the locks. Joe kicks the door down though and Louise points out that thanks to his cheating ways they now have to leave the family home. Joe and Louise manage to reach an agreement that will see Joe will tell the army they are happily married and Louise and the girls can stay put. Joe is not hsappy when he finds out that his freind Carl has been spending a lot of time with his family and he makes sure that he knows not to go any where near his wife or children ever again. Tom goes to see Tasha and he’s not surprised that she wasn’t at the homecoming. They later end up sharing a kiss. Paula can’t understand why Tasha’s not been around to see them. Louise is furious to find out that Carl has taken a beating. Following a confronation with Joe, Louise goes to collect Grace and Hannah from school and finds out that Joe has already taken them. Louise later manages to find Joe but the girls are nowhere to be found. Claire finds a drowsy Hannah but there is no sign of Grace. Louise is later relieved when her daughter shows up safe and well.
The Barthams wedding is just around the corner but there’s one piece of the jigsaw that doesn’t quite fit which is Sam. After Pete and Claire manage to find Sam and his ‘friends’ being chased by the Military Police the truth comes out that am’s been taking weed from his dad and giving it away to make mates. Pete tells the MP he’ll deal with Sam and his threats sends Sam packing. Louise pays Joe a visit who has been confined to Barracks whilst the army carries out psychiatric tests to assess whether he’s a danger to himself or others. Keeley takes pregnant Tasha to the pub where Tom can’t take his eyes off Tasha. Keeley assumes she’s the one being looked at and moves in for the kill. After Tom follows Tasha he ends up being forced to help deliver the baby she is expecting. Tasha and Tom later finally give in to their feelings both well aware of the consequences.Calire ends up having a change of heart and decides to call off the wedding. Carl’s feeling good following anight of passion with Louise, he wants something more, but Louise can’t just switch her feelings for Joe off over night. Claire ends up crying on Martin’s shoulder confessing that when Pete is on tour she can’t help but think the worst. She then realises that she called off the wedding for fear of losing him, which is exactly what she is doing by not marrying him. After talking things through with Pete the wedding is back on.
