1910, Iwamoto Kodou enquête sur des phénomènes paranormaux dans tout le pays conformément aux directives militaires. Dans un village possédant de la « neige noire », il fait la rencontre d'un jeune homme isolé présentant des pouvoirs correspondant à ce phénomène, qu'il décrit comme sa malédiction. Il lui propose alors de rejoindre la prestigieuse académie militaire Seihou, tout en se portant garant pour être son senpai.
