Briscoe e Curtis indagano sulla sparatoria a un ristorante dove un uomo viene ucciso e un altro viene ferito. In un primo momento sembrava che il bersaglio sembra essere una terza persona, ma in realtà il bersaglio era l'uomo ferito, uno psicologo che aveva elaborato una teoria singolare cioè quella di escludere la responsabilità dei sospettati dei crimini commessi. Briscoe e Curtis sospettano di una donna, presente al ristorante mentre è stata commessa la sparatoria che è in realtà la figlia di un uomo condannato per omicidio, e nel cui processo la vittima aveva prestato in favore della difesa la propria consulenza. McCoy riesce a dimostrare l'infondatezza facendo riferimento proprio alla testimonianza resa dal consulente nel processo del padre della donna.
