Living in Germany at War

When the Second World War began in September 1939, the idea of war was deeply unpopular amongst the German population. Yet by April 1945, when the war was clearly lost, they were fighting to the bitter end for the Nazi regime. Jerome Prieur's award-winning documentary series attempts to understand the seismic shift in German public opinion, drawing exclusively on archive material to recount the daily lives of both civilians and soldiers during the six years of World War 2. From soldiers writing to their fiancées to World War I veterans, members of Hitler Youth to persecuted Jews, letters, diaries and eyewitness accounts reveal what it was like for the men and women living in Germany at war.
