As Lynn Minmay prepares to celebrate her birthday, Hikaru begins to wonder about his relationship with Minmay and emerging feelings for Misa Hayase. Hikaru is promoted and has Maximilian Jenius and Hayao Kakizaki assigned as his wingmen. Quamzin Kravshera mounts another strike against the Macross whilst Hikaru wonders if he'll celebrate Minmay's birthday in time.
Comme Minmay fête son anniversaire, Hikaru commence à s'interroger sur sa relation avec Minmay et des sentiments nouveaux pour Misa. Hikaru est promu et a Maximillian Jenius et Hayao Kakizaki affecté comme ses équipiers. Quamzin monte une autre attaque contre le Macross tandis que Hikaru se demande s'il va célébrer l'anniversaire de Minmay dans le temps.
火星での早瀬中尉救出の手柄によって、輝は少佐に昇進。また、柿崎とマックスという、対照的な性格の二人を部下に持つことになった。ミンメイのバースディ･パーティの中、プレゼントを忘れた輝。そのパーティの最中に出撃命令が下る。マックスは初陣にもかかわらず撃墜数を 11とし、柿崎と輝を驚かせるのだった。そして夜にミンメイ宅を訪ねるが、プレゼントを買い忘れた輝は自分の勲章をミンメイにプレゼントするのだった。
