Actors Miriam Margolyes and Alan Cumming take off on a motorhome adventure to rediscover their Scottish roots. They start out in Glasgow, visiting the street where Miriam's Jewish family first lived in Scotland, then journey north into the Highlands. Alan learns about his ancestral past at Cawdor Castle, they meet up with fellow actor Bill Paterson and stop off in Carnoustie, where things take a somber turn as Alan remembers his abusive childhood.

Along the way, they visit Alan's mum Mary, and go rambling with her walking group in Monikie Country Park. The duo also get a lesson in `zen golf" from an old school friend of Alan, try a spot of cooking - with meat-free white pudding and kosher haggis on the menu - and head to Sir Walter Scott's majestic home in the Borders. In Edinburgh, they visit a cafe for LGBTQ+ people and reflect on their journey.

They kick off the Scottish leg on the Harry Potter Express steam train, before climbing back into their campervan to visit the Cairngorms. They also have a go at modern orienteering, have a close encounter with a reindeer and hook up with old friend Brian Cox at his old stomping ground, the Dundee Rep.
The hosts visit the Hebridean Isle of Skye, where Miriam and Heather first went on holiday together over 50 years ago. Alan takes the pair on a boat trip to see a pod of dolphins. Skye's resident wand whittler gives them a lesson in wood carving, and Alan gets in trouble with the seaweed king.
Miriam and Alan visit a Santa Barbara 'drugs den'. In Palm Springs, they enjoy drag bingo and join a gay knitting group. Then, it's on to LA.
In the series finale, Miriam, Alan and Lala visit a dog healing centre in LA. And in Vegas, a cabaret show leaves Miriam utterly speechless... for once
