Michelin-kokken Dak Laddaporn Gjørtler Wichangoen er født i det nordøstlige Thailand. Da hun er helt lille, dør hendes far i en motorcykelulykke, og Daks mor vælger at rejse til Danmark, for at skabe et bedre liv for sine børn. Som 7-årig følger Dak efter, og resten af barndommen tilbringer hun i Vestjylland. Siden da, har hun rejst til Thailand ved hver given lejlighed, og hun føler sig lige så meget hjemme der, som hun gør i Danmark.
