There is more than meets the eye when it comes to the 30-year magic of Mr. Dressup, one of Canada's most iconic children's shows. This Encore+ Original takes viewers deep into the world of Mr. Dressup (Ernie Coombs) with his real-life children Cathie LeFort and Christopher Coombs ad well as the show's legendary puppeteer, Judith Lawrence (aka Casey, Finnegan). Mr. Dressup originally aired daily on Canadian Broadcasting Television (CBC) across Canada, finding its way into the hearts of four generations.
Mr. Dressup, Casey and Finnegan investigate live worms. Mr. Dressup makes a paper-bag owl mask for Casey. Later on Mr. Dressup and friends act out the story of an unhappy duck. Then Mr. Dressup has a bad day when Mr. Backwards plays a joke on Alligator Al at the Trading Post. And finally, Mr. Dressup, and Casey and Finnegan putting their own twist on the fairytale story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Mr. Dressup, Casey and Finnegan explore and reassure some of the fears that young children have, such as going to school and meeting new people. Then, Mr. Dressup plays a joke on Casey which results in a spat between Casey and Finnegan. Once Mr. Dressup rescues Casey from a locked bathroom, everyone is back to high spirits. At the end of the video, we find Mr. Dressup and Casey out in the backyard putting on one of their famous puppet shows!
Mr. Dressup and Casey help Alligator Al settle into his new Trading Post. Soon after we find Casey, Finnegan and Mr. Dressup on an adventure into outer space! Once they come back, Mr. Dressup and his pals have some fun with games and puzzles and welcome a new friend, Wes Zaharuk, who teaches them how to juggle.
